Filming outdoor scenes (6 and 7)

Image
Hello! This week we were able to get a lot of filming done. We met at Harlow's house on two separate days so we could film the outside scenes. We were not able to film those scenes before because of weather issues and schedule issues.       The first few shots were pretty easy since they were the establishing shot and the shot of the girl walking. Jessica was the director, and Harlow and I were actors. Harlow is the girl and I am the neighbour. We used a selfie stick Harlow had at her house which made the filming process go very smooth. It made it easy to film the establishing shot since we were able to lift the phone and get the entire building, and it helped stabilize the footage. One of our main concerns was that our shots would turn out shaky and we would have to refilm them, but thankfully this was not a problem as the selfie stick made the shots very steady.       Filming got harder however when we had to film the s...

Editing Blog

Image
Hello! Today we began the editing process of our project. First, our teammate Harlow uploaded the film footage to google drive so we could all access it. She had a bit of trouble with it at first but eventually was able to transfer the footage from her mother's phone to her computer. After getting access to the files, Harlow and I got together on google meets to begin editing. Jessica was attending a family event, so she was unable to meet with us, but she agreed to edit a part of it. The part of the film that we edited was the flashback, which has 5 scenes. Harlow and I edited the first 4 scenes while Jessica edited the last one. We decided to edit on my computer since I have the iMovie software and it is the easiest one to use out of all the software we tried.  To be able to work on it together, I shared my screen with Harlow through the meeting. This way, she would be able to see what I was working on.  I then downloaded all the footage to my computer, and we started sortin...

Production Blog: Filming updates and challenges

Image
Hello! Last weekend we were unable to continue filming, but we kept in contact and finally set up a time to meet. We decided to get together again and film on Friday. We have an early release day on Thursday and no school on Friday, but we chose to film on Friday instead of Thursday because one of our team members has volleyball practise on Thursdays. Last weekend we were unable to meet because one of our teammates had a volleyball game and the other had to attend a family event. However, one of our teammates lives with one of our actors and over the weekend she filmed some scenes. This was because of our inability to get together, and for health precautions since more people would be present and involved. Throughout the process, she realized some of the camera shots and angles we had planned would not work. Because of this, she had to adjust and film different angles, but this will not affect the film. For example,  she decided to change a shot from a long shot to a close up...

Selecting music

Image
Hello! This week, we worked on the music selection process of our project, and on rehearsing. We haven't been able to film again since last time because some of the actors were unavailable. However, we decided to get other things that didn't involve filming, out of the way. Because of this, we decided to get ahead of the editing process and pick what music we would use in our film. We met through google meets and started discussing what type of music to use.  We began by looking at music from films in the same genre. We liked one of the string sounds from the movie Anabelle and decided to search for a similar royalty-free one. We found it and decided we were going to use it at the part the girl read the note, to add suspense and surprise. We also looked at some background music on youtube and found 3 different songs we liked. We haven't decided where each specific song will go yet, but w picked out the scenes that would have the most intense music behind them. For example,...

Filming Blog

Hello! Over the weekend, my team and I started the filming process of our project. We all met at Harlow's house because that is the main location where we will be doing all our filming.  We had planned to get all the scenes with the girl done but were not able to. A lot of the scenes in this part of our film were supposed to be filmed outside, but it started raining. We were only able to film the ones inside the house.      We decided Harlow would be the actor, so Jessica and I took turns filming. I filmed the scenes at the entrance of the house, and she filmed the scenes in the kitchen. Everything went smoothly for the most part, but we had to refilm the same scene multiple times because it was hard to keep a straight face. We also had to refilm some shaky scenes.      After we had finished filming, the rain still had not stopped so we decided to instead rehearse the outdoor films. Those scenes were the ones that involved dialogue,...

Filming and Editing

Image
Hello! This week we did some planning but have not yet started filming. We decided to start filming on March 6th and end around March 13th. We decided to not start filming until later this week because none of us was available sooner. Since the quarter is ending, we have all had tests and specifically, Harlow had a Chemistry test she has been focused on, so she has been busy studying. I was very sick this week, and only recently tested negative for Covid, so I couldn't film either since I wanted to take precautions. Additionally, even though I did test negative for covid, I was still feeling pretty bad so we decided it would just be better if we waited more until I was feeling better. Lastly, Jessica plays volleyball, and she has practice until very late at night, and so even if I were feeling more up for it, our schedules still wouldn't match up until later on.      However, in the meantime, we've been doing as much as we can to decide what we are going to ...

Planning: Storyboard

Image
The storyboard process is important to the planning process because it allows us to get an idea of what the film will look like in a visual format. As a result, we will be able to plan better, and by storyboarding the process, we won’t have to research and try to picture each scene or how it will look. We will have our entire opening sequence layed out in front of us. This will allow us to save time as well, letting us use our time for editing or revisions instead. Additionally, if there are any last-minute cancellations or if we are in a time crunch, we will have our opening sequence laid out and ready to go so that we can immediately start filming once everything is set up.
