Editing Blog

Hello! Today we began the editing process of our project. First, our teammate Harlow uploaded the film footage to google drive so we could all access it. She had a bit of trouble with it at first but eventually was able to transfer the footage from her mother's phone to her computer. After getting access to the files, Harlow and I got together on google meets to begin editing. Jessica was attending a family event, so she was unable to meet with us, but she agreed to edit a part of it. The part of the film that we edited was the flashback, which has 5 scenes. Harlow and I edited the first 4 scenes while Jessica edited the last one. We decided to edit on my computer since I have the iMovie software and it is the easiest one to use out of all the software we tried.  To be able to work on it together, I shared my screen with Harlow through the meeting. This way, she would be able to see what I was working on.  I then downloaded all the footage to my computer, and we started sorting through it to see which scenes to include.  This took a while because there was a look of footage to go through. This was good however because we had a lot of options to choose from in case one of the shots wasn't good, and we didn't have to refilm anything. We put all the clips together in the iMovie software and then started trimming them. This also took a while because some of the clips were very long, and I had to get rid of all the extra footage. It also took me a while to make it precise since some of the clips had the voice of the director behind them right as the actor started moving. In other scenes, like the first 2 scenes, we wanted to make the transition between the two clips smooth, so I had to go in and adjust them until they looked like a single clip. I think so far the project is looking very good, and e pretty much have half of it done already!

Hello! Over the past couple of days, my team and I have been meeting to discuss and add sound to our project.  I thought this would be one of the easiest parts of the process, but I was very wrong. I think this has been one of the hardest aspects of creating our video. We didn't think it would take longer, so we all met on google meets one day like we usually do, and started thinking about which music to use. We all started looking through youtube to find copyright-free sounds we could use, but after about half an hour ago, we realized it was useless. We could only go through one sound at a time since we were doing it together, and it was taking a very long time. We decided this was not a good idea, and that instead of going through sounds together, we should go through sounds separately, pick our favorites and then we could go through the few ones we compiled together. Creative Critical Reflection for Honey Nut Cheerios Commercial

     While making my product, I used many food advertisement conventions, since my goal was to make a commercial for a Honey Nut Cheerios, which is a cereal brand. While doing my research, I found out that one of the conventions they use the most is having families or kids in their advertisements. This is because cereal brands like Cheerios' customers are mainly women older than 40 years old with families. Including families in their commercials help them stir feelings and appeal to their demographic. Because of this, I decided to include a family in my commercial too.      Also, I had a mom and her two kids together, and throughout the commercial, they have a conflict over the cheerios. This was one way my commercial challenged conventions. Usually, cereal commercials have kids or families playing together, instead of fighting. Introduction to the Music Video Project

     Today I started the process of producing the music video project. For this project, I decided to work with 3 of my friends who are also taking the media studies class. These are Abigail Koppel, Ashlyn Young and Jessica Guerra.     I chose to work with a group so I would be able to split the amount of work with someone. I chose these people because I have previous experience working with them. At first, I was planning to do it with only one person, but then we all talked about it and decided to work together. We've known each other for years and have worked in many group projects together, so I already know what to expect.  I'm more comfortable working with them since I know they will all work hard and we will end up with a high-quality product.
