Filming Blog for Music Video

Image
Before Thanksgiving break, my group and I decided we would start filming during that week. We planned it this way so we would have plenty of time to edit and take extra shots if we needed them. Unfortunately, this did not end up happening due to many complications from all sides of the group. One of our members flew to Massachusetts unexpectedly to spend the holiday with her family, and she was not able to be present to film. Another of our group members had to quarantine due to their family contracting Covid, and this was through the entirety of the break and the week prior, so she wasn't able to film either.  I was also in contact with someone who tested positive for covid, but when my family got tested we were all negative. However, we still had to quarantine just to be sure we did not have it and would not spread it. I was not able to film that week either. The music video required all of us to be present for filming, and it would've been impossible and unfa...

Lyrics “You Should Be Here” It's perfect outside its like god let me dial up the weather Got the whole crew here, I ain't seen some of them in forever It's one of those never forget it, better stop and take it in kinda scenes Everything's just right yeah except for one thing You should be here, standing with your arm around me here Cutting up, cracking a cold beer Saying cheers, hey y'all it's sure been a good year It's one of those moments, that's got your name written all over it And you know that if I had just one wish it'd Be that you didn't have to miss this You should be here First Scene The video starts off with a pan of someone sitting alone by a fireplace. They look sad and are reminiscing the times they spent with a loved one. Second Scene In the second scene, it flashes back to a memory that the actor had of them and the loved one by the fireplace. In this memory, they seem to both be enjoying the moment. Third Scene In the third scene...

You Should Be Here Music Video Planning Blog

Image
Props: We decided to make a music video with Cole Swindell’s song, You Should Be Here. When we record we will be looking back at memories of times we had with our past friend, so we will need casual every-day clothes. One of the scenes will be filmed in a bonfire, so we will need the bonfire and chairs. We will also need flowers and a picture frame that will be used to show the friend we are commemorating. We will probably use many other props that will come up once we start filming.  Costumes: There will be many people in the music video and there will be different costumes for certain scenes. Most will be casual outfits that resemble going to common places and errands. Schedule: On 11/16/20, we will research the common camera movements, angles, and characteristics of a country music video. On 11/17/20, we will plan the props and costumes needed, the schedule to make the video, the locations for every scene, and an emergency back-up plan. On 11/18/20 - 11/20/20, we will cre...

Music Video Research Blog

Image
My group and I had to begin our research, so we joined a FaceTime call all together to decide what themes we wanted to go with. It took us a while to actually go through each song and agree on a genre, but we eventually got focused. We decided on a sad, slow, theme that reminisces life. This matches lessons that we have learned in the pandemic, and how to truly value our time. We all learned not to take for granted the special little moments shared with the people around us. These moments consist of our childhood and our lives, and we learned to appreciate them way more. These lessons are what inspired our choices for our project. We chose the song, You Should Be Here by Cole Swindell. We watched the music video for this song, other Swindell songs, and other videos for different songs with the same genre and theme. On the call, we talked about what we wanted our music video to look like. We listened to the song repeatedly to fully understand the lyrics that were being presented to us....

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
Today I started the process of producing the music video project. For this project, I decided to work with 3 of my friends who are also taking the media studies class. These are Abigail Koppel, Ashlyn Young and Jessica Guerra.     I chose to work with a group so I would be able to split the amount of work with someone. I chose these people because I have previous experience working with them. At first, I was planning to do it with only one person, but then we all talked about it and decided to work together. We've known each other for years and have worked in many group projects together, so I already know what to expect.  I'm more comfortable working with them since I know they will all work hard and we will end up with a high-quality product. I know they will all contribute to the project and they are all good at meeting deadlines and turning work in on time. I also already know we all work well together, so that won't be a problem. Lastly, I chose t...

Creative Critical Reflection for Honey Nut Cheerios Commercial

Image
While making my product, I used many food advertisement conventions, since my goal was to make a commercial for a Honey Nut Cheerios, which is a cereal brand. While doing my research, I found out that one of the conventions they use the most is having families or kids in their advertisements. This is because cereal brands like Cheerios' customers are mainly women older than 40 years old with families. Including families in their commercials help them stir feelings and appeal to their demographic. Because of this, I decided to include a family in my commercial too.      Also, I had a mom and her two kids together, and throughout the commercial, they have a conflict over the cheerios. This was one way my commercial challenged conventions. Usually, cereal commercials have kids or families playing together, instead of fighting. I had the kids argue over the box of cheerios and then at the end, they resolved it and happily ate the cereal together.  ...

Honey Nut Cheerios Commercial

Image
This was the first major filming project I've ever completed. Looking back, I think there are many things I would do different but I think the overall product turned out well.        First of all, I learned how important it was to have a plan. It was very helpful to already know on the day I filmed, exactly what I was going to do in each film and what shots I wanted. It made the process run smoothly and quickly. I also learned how important it was to have steady hands. I underestimated how shaky some of the shots would turn out, and I ended up having to reshoot some of them. It was especially hard to keep the camera still while filming tracking shots. I also didn't think I would have to reshoot some of my scenes too many times, but I ended up having to reshoot some parts multiple times.       I also learned a lot about editing. While using the software I found a lot of shortcuts and commands that made the process go by fas...

Editing Blog

Image
On November 2, 2020, I started editing my Honey Nut Cheerios commercial. I used the iMovie software to edit my video.  The first thing I did was import all the footage to my computer and put them in order all together on my editing software. Then, I went through each scene and made sure the total time of all the clips together was about thirty seconds. Initially, the clip began from the car and ended at the front door, but it was too long, so I had to shorten it. For the second and third clip, I filmed her walking into the kitchen and it didn't need much editing. Next, I showed a short recording of the product, Honey Nut Cheerios, which then I made a transition to cut to the next scene. This next clip was very short in order to stay in the thirty-second-time frame. The next four clips were showing the children running through the house. I put a fade between the clips so it would look like a smooth transition from place to place. The following two clips consisted of dialogue s...
