Music Video Research Blog
My group and I had to begin our research, so we joined a FaceTime call all together to decide what themes we wanted to go with. It took us a while to actually go through each song and agree on a genre, but we eventually got focused. We decided on a sad, slow, theme that reminisces life. This matches lessons that we have learned in the pandemic, and how to truly value our time. We all learned not to take for granted the special little moments shared with the people around us. These moments consist of our childhood and our lives, and we learned to appreciate them way more. These lessons are what inspired our choices for our project. We chose the song, You Should Be Here by Cole Swindell. We watched the music video for this song, other Swindell songs, and other videos for different songs with the same genre and theme. On the call, we talked about what we wanted our music video to look like. We listened to the song repeatedly to fully understand the lyrics that were being presented to us. We wanted to make sure that our video represents a similar format seen in other videos, but is still unique. We found that our original idea was very similar to a pre-existing video, so we edited it a little bit. After making a loose plan, we did some more research to get the elements down. We looked at the CLAMPS seen in other professional videos. After thinking about costumes, we each looked at what we had at home to see if any of our things could work or if there was anything else we should get. We found that most of the things seen in the music videos, we common items. Looking at the videos, we determined that each video has something unique and that the style of editing used in each one can be drastically different. The lighting and camera style that is typically used is fluent throughout each recording, so we think it's important to try and match that. Researching really helped us decide which constructs we should follow and which we should make our own. This is one of the most important parts used, which helps us to create a draft for our project. We will make it extremely important to us to match our theme and genre
