Filming Blog

I filmed my Honey Nut Cheerios commercial on October 31st. All of the group members were there and on time so filming started smoothly. As the director, I brought all the props and makeup, and the actors brought their own costumes based on my description. We started filming with the first actor, the mom and I made sure to get all the angles I wanted. We did not have to reshoot that scene since it was pretty simple. For the next scene, the kids came in, and we had to re-shoot that scene multiple times until they got the timing and the dialogue right. As the director i also told them which facial expressions i wanted for each scene. We switched filming locations from the kitchen to the living room and began to film the chase scene. I made sure to take the cereal out of the box and closed it to make sure it would be lighter for the children to run with, and they wouldn't spill anything if they dropped it or there was an accident. I made sure I got the right angle, and that the trackin...

First Scene  In the first scene of my commercial, the mom will be coming home from the grocery store. She will place the bags on the counter, and as she is unpacking everything she bought, she will yell and tell her kids to come to the kitchen. It will be a midshot.  Second Scene  In this scene, the kids will run in and ask their mom if she got what they asked for. She says yes and they look through the bag until they spot the box of Honey Nut Cheerios.  The location for this scene is still the kitchen. They will all be wearing casual clothes. As they run into the kitchen, the shot will be a midshot, and as they look through the grocery bags there will be a high angle.  Third Scene  In this scene, the kids will take the honey nut cheerios out of the bag and place it on the counter. They will start arguing about who gets the box and who gets to eat them first. It will be a slight close-up and a shot/reverse shot as they talk. The scene ends with the girl gra...

Props Since I am doing my commercial about the cereal Honey Nut Cheerios, my main props will be the cereal box, a bowl, a bottle of milk, and a spoon.  I will also need a grocery bag since I plan to have the mom unbagging the groceries after getting back from the store. Costumes I will have three main people in my commercial, the mom and her two kids. They will be wearing average every-day clothes like for example a  T-shirt, jeans or shorts since my commercial would be aimed towards the average family. They will have little to no make-up and little girl will have her hair up since she will be doing some running.  Schedule On 10-22-2020 I will conduct research on cereal commercials to see what conventions are used, and then i will conduct research on Honey Nut cheerios Specifically to see how they do their commercials and what conventions they use.  On 10-23-2020 I will establish which props, costumes and locations I will use. I will also form a schedule and c...

Research: Commercial Conventions and Codes

I am doing a Cheerios cereal commercial. These commercials usually feature someone eating the cereal or the cereal being poured into a bowl. These commercials usually have children in them and they appeal to pathos by showcasing families eating meals together. They always feature a closeup of the cereal box or of the cereal being poured into a bowl of milk. To make the cereal look more appetizing they focus in and do a slow-mo of the cereal as it falls into the bowl and the milk splashes.  Most other children's cereal commercials use bright, crazy colors to attracts kid's attention, but Cheerios is targeted towards parents and aims to present a healthier alternative to other cereals. Because of this, they usually use muted colors to emphasize the product being wholesome and healthy.  Show families playing or doing other activities together  Have happy, nostalgic and soft music to accentuate the family setting and convey a comfortable feeling.  Have people wearing ave...
