Filming Blog

I filmed my Honey Nut Cheerios commercial on October 31st. All of the group members were there and on time so filming started smoothly. As the director, I brought all the props and makeup, and the actors brought their own costumes based on my description. We started filming with the first actor, the mom and I made sure to get all the angles I wanted. We did not have to reshoot that scene since it was pretty simple. For the next scene, the kids came in, and we had to re-shoot that scene multiple times until they got the timing and the dialogue right. As the director i also told them which facial expressions i wanted for each scene. We switched filming locations from the kitchen to the living room and began to film the chase scene. I made sure to take the cereal out of the box and closed it to make sure it would be lighter for the children to run with, and they wouldn't spill anything if they dropped it or there was an accident. I made sure I got the right angle, and that the tracking movement was the least shaky possible. We had to reshoot multiple times as the actors got off track at times, and at other times the shot was shakier than I wanted it to be. Next, we filmed the meal scene with all of the actors together. I set up the background and the area, and put up all the props we needed. I also had to clean up all the grocery bags that were in the kitchen form the first scene. All the actors sat down and we filmed the scene with no complications. Lastly, i filmed the scene where the product is presented front and center, and made sure the shot was long enough for the voiceover to fit. The entire filming process took about an hour and a half. I got all the shots i needed that same day, however, i will be with the actors for the next days, so if while editing i find i need another shot, it will be easy to reshoot some scenes.
